Google Analytics / Firefox Problems & Issues

Since I’ve been using google analytics now for a couple of weeks. (Yes I got in early.) I’ve noticed that there’s some issues with it, and wanted to report them here:

  • Data No Showing Up In Firefox - I’m not able to figure out why this is happening, but some of my data was not showing up in the stats when I was using Firefox, but when I tried out Internet Expolorer it seemed to work. This is doesn’t make sense since they are running Flash, which should be indepedent of browsers, but what can I saw, that’s what I experienced.

Hopefully they fix this cause I don’t use IE as my primary browser.

  • It takes some time for the data to be updated - I’ve noticed that sometimes the analytics are about 24 hours behind, and sometimes it’s only a couple of hours. I know they are overwhelmed with the response, but this is Google, where’s that dark fiber?

Google Analytics Performance Won’t Improve Soon

Just received notification from Google Analytics that they are not able to add new account or new profiles at least until the end of November. Here’s the actual email:

First, due to extremely high demand, we’ve temporarily limited the number of new signups as we increase capacity. This allows us to focus on our primary objective–to provide a great user experience for our existing users.

Next, here is current information on the most common questions we’re receiving:

1. The ‘Check Status’ button is being reworked to check for properly installed tracking code. This should be fixed by the end of November.

2. The ‘+Add Profile’ link has been temporarily removed until we increase capacity. We’ll alert all current users when the feature is restored.

3. While we increase capacity, you may see longer than normal delays in data showing up in your reports. All data continues to be collected and no data has been lost.

I’m glad I signed up right away and added many of my sites, but the performance is very slow. Maybe they should start putting out those trailer server farms out there.

Google Analytics is LIVE… Use It Now

Filed under: Blogging Tools & Services at 9:47 pm (no comments)

Google AnalyticsGoogle just lunched their Google Analytics website, which you can find here. I’ve put some of my blogs up for the stats, will see how they are reporting in a couple of days.

BUG: I already found one bug, you can’t add a site plus a directory (domain.com/dir) you can only add domain.com

Looks like Steve was 20 min ahead of me announcing this.

How To Get To The Top Of Blogging Mountain

Steve Rubel is at the top of the PR mountain, Walt at Random is at the top of the librarian mountain, Freedom to Tinker is at the top of the Law mountain, and Go Fug Yourself is at the top of the Fashion mountain. How do you get to the top of your blogging mountain?

PubSub released the Community Lists to rank bloggers and from the looks of it, it doesn’t take much to get to the top of a mountain. Although there’s only four categories, from the numbers it looks like it doesn’t take much or at least it’s not impossible. The hardest category looks like PR, which Mr. Rubel is #1 in.

For example, the Fassion list only requires about one post per day with one link per day from another blogger and that will put you into the top 10.

Here’s what Nev says about the new list:

I’m not sure, though, that I’d place too much reliance on such a list as a valid indicator of a blog’s popularity or influence. How do you measure the accuracy of something that produces completely different results compared to other tools like Technorati’s that I mentioned above (and that one is based in large part on how bloggers have listed themselves)? Different ways of measuring add to the confusion and lack of fuller confidence in these offerings.

You Can Use Flock With b2evolution

I’ve received several emails with people wondering if they can use Flock with b2evolution blogging software, and the answer is yes, you can use Flock to publish to b2evolution blogs. I tested it myself, Flock will autodetect it for you, so you’ll have no problems with configuring it.

Flock is up and running. Well, at least the developer version, with bugs, is. You can download it here.

I’m going to play around with it and report on it later.

UPDATE:

But being 100% honest, I’m still not sure I’m changing my browser to have a way to integrate delicious and a blogging tool into my browsing experience. I know some people will, but I’m not sure about numbers.

I Need An Archive of Blogs, NOW!

So I’m reading Bloglines, which is my preferred reader since I can take it with me anywhere, and my busy mind remembers a post I might have read around 6 month ago. Now, I don’t remember what site it was from or who wrote it, but I can probably think of a few keywords in that post.

What do I do?

  1. I can’t use Google. It doesn’t search only blogs and I can’t specify the time frame.
  2. I can’t use any of the blog searching sites. Because they produce the same results as google or worse.
  3. I finally come to the conclusion that there is NOTHING that I can do. That is when this idea came to my mind, we need something like bloglines, which is easy to use, but for it to store all of the posts from a blog in an archive format, easily searchable, and easy to use.

I’m sure that whoever comes up with that will be pretty successful.

Flock “Might” Help

Any app that helps with making my life easier or simplier or shaves 5 seconds of the tasks I’m going to try and probably use. So I’m jealous that so many people are now using Flock and I’m not, yet.

TechCrunch writes: “The blogging tool was, and remains, absolutely the best I’ve seen. This tool brings flickr pictures directly into the blog tool, allowing simple drag and drop into the post. It’s dual-pane, with both wysiwyg and html interfaces (I actually preferred the old toggle method of changing from html to wysiwyg, but I’m not complaining). Setup is very simple. It just works.”

Solution Watch Writes: “Now lets take a look at the Flock Blog Editor. The blog editor actually surprised me on what can be accomplished with it. It is a small editor but it does have some great features. In the screenshot above, I have the Blog Topbar open.”

I am still looking for a QUICK and easy way to upload images into my posts. Flock might help or not, we’ll have to wait and see to test it out.

MeasureMap Your Blog Stats

Filed under: Blogging Tools & Services at 3:17 pm (no comments)

MeasureMap PanelWhat is MeasureMap?

Measure Map is an incredibly easy to use flash and ajax application that monitors blog traffic and analytics in many, many different ways. You can slice data almost every way imaginable. I’ll do a full review as soon as I have their permission.

Anything that helps with TEST, TEST, TEST, especially if it’s a good product is always welcome.

Per TechCrunch.

UPDATE: You can find a full screen capture here. A question I have is how’s it different than the current stats programs I’m already using?
